Older Cats Looking For Homes - Welfare and Rescue Page
CATS CURRENTLY NEEDING NEW HOMESAre you considering adopting a Maine Coon?Often the cats that need a new home find themselves in this situation through no fault of their own. The reasons for re-homing are numerous and can vary from an allergy to cats within the household, emigrating to another country or breakdown of a marriage or partnership. Most of the cats looking for new homes have no known medical or behaviour problems, although occasionally they do and you need to have a long chat with the current owner to gain a full understanding of any issues with the cats.
Many of the cats tend to be older – it is very rare to have a kitten that requires a new home. Some cats need to go to homes where there are no other animals or children. Others have no problem with this - it all depends on the individual cat. The website has all the current cats available and it will be updated weekly. You CANNOT sell your cat on this site, all cats go FREE of charge, although obviously we do accept donations as we often have to pay for veterinary bills on cats being rehomed.

I have two Maine Coon cats that need rehoming due work commitments and long hours. So, leaving them alone so long each day is not fair on them.
The male cat is called Rix (left photo), and he is around 5 years old and a red tabby. He has been neutered. The female cat is Rix's mum, she is called Lady (right photo) and she around 8 years old and also a red tabby. She has been neutered. Both have been microchipped but I'm not sure where the certificates are. I have all vaccinations for them both.

They don't like children, have always been inside cats and don't go outside at all. They like human companionship and very loyal and like to be around people. Lady has to gain the trust of a person before you stroke her, but she doesn't like being picked up . If you do pick her up she gets nervous but may settle once stroked. She does things on her terms. Lady has had dental work about 18 months ago.Rix like cuddling and stroking. He loves to play but gets his claws out when played with, he doesn't mean to scratch on purpose but gets too excited when played with. Both are microchipped and all jabs are up to date. I would prefer them to be rehomed together, without other cats or dogs in the home.If you can offer this pair their forever home then please contact our rehoming coordinator Jacky at mcccrescue@gmail.com. There will be a rehoming donation of £100 for the pair.

Due to a relationship breakdown, I am looking for a foster home for my beautiful Maine Coon boys, whilst I find a new property to buy. I would expect this to take a few months, however I will have somewhere for them to go in approximately 3 to 4 months’ time.
I live currently live in Southampton but will be moving to Andover in October.
Cats names: Archie & Sampson (brothers)Age: They are 2 years oldFully Vaccinated, microchipped and neutered They are not used to small children so adult household preferred. They do go outside at home so I would prefer them to still be able to explore, but away from any busy roads, so a quiet cul-de-sac or rural location would be ideal. They have not lived with dogs before but do not seem bothered about neighbours’ dogs. I think they would be ok with 1-2 cats.
If you are able to foster these boys for a few months then please contact our rehoming coordinator Jacky at mcccrescue@gmail.com

Bootsy the tabby and white Maine Coon is looking for a caring and loving home, accommodating of a few special needs and a quirky personality.
Bootsy is 5 years old and full of life. He initially had a rough start as a result of a broken vertebrae when he was only a few months old. More detail on this can be provided.
Since then, he’s made a full recovery, albeit he’s now a little peculiar - walking with a lolloping gait and occasional loss of power in his back legs.
This doesn’t stop him however, far from it! Bootsy lives a very active outdoors life in a rural countryside setting…much to chagrin of the local mouse population! When he’s not mousing, he enjoys his comforts be this in front of the fire or curled up on the sofa.
He’s a vocal boy and loves to eat - he’ll let you know if it’s one minute past dinner time. He’s always lived with other animals (dogs, cats, chickens and ducks) and enjoys a busy household. He’s shy around strangers but tactile and engaging around ‘his people’.

As a result of his injury, Bootsy can also struggle to groom himself which has led to matting on his bottom and under his arms in the past. He’s a very willing recipient of grooming, including the clippers, and is a preferred customer at the local groomers. Everyone who meets him adores his gentle personality!
Bootsy is looking for a new home due to his current owners recently having a baby. Bootsy has not taken well to this change and has become distressed and behaving out of character. As such, we think it would be best if Bootsy was rehomed in a setting with or without other pets, but with grown up children whom he can interact with more fully. If you can offer Bootsy his forever home, then contact our rescue coordinator Jacky at mcccrescue@gmail.com. There will be a £100 donation fee for him

Theo is a 10-year-old black/brown tabby Maine Coon. I took Theo in as a foster in July with the intention of keeping him. As far as I’m aware he was living as an outdoor cat and when I collected him, he was living in an old crate in someone’s garden. Theo was in poor condition when he arrived, but he’s now fighting fit, has put on a good amount of weight and is a beautiful and loving boy. Theo is looking for his permanent and forever home to live out his days in luxury with a family or an Individual and more importantly as an only cat. Theo would love access to a cat secure garden or catio but under no circumstances should he be allowed to roam or mix with other cats, indoors or outdoors. Theo had some health issues when he arrived and after lots of tests has been confirmed as a shedder and carrier of feline coronavirus. After lots of love, care and affection Theo is a now a picture of health and is well - he just sheds the virus. Whilst carrying coronavirus brings no risk to humans, it makes him contagious to other cats.
I hoped to adopt Theo after forming such a strong bond with him, however having now been confirmed as a virus carrier, and as I already have cats in my home, I have no option but to find a very special home for this very special boy. Theo has not been tested around children, and I have seen no evidence of aggression in the slightest. He is however very strong so this should be considered. He has not been tested around dogs yet but for the right home with a calmer, cat friendly dog, this could potentially be arranged. He has the temperament typical of a Maine Coon, but due to his past he can be easily spooked – he doesn’t like shouting and would flinch at arm movements when he arrived, and we have worked through this. I am heartbroken to be saying goodbye to Theo. He has been in full isolation since his arrival with his home being my office, so we have spent many hours having fun together and building a relationship.
Theo is chipped and castrated and I have his pedigree certificate and evidence of chipping. I have no knowledge of his health or vaccination history – I was waiting for him to be well enough before having him vaccinated. He has been vet checked twice since arriving with me and other than FCov all tests have come back clear. Theo is very chatty and likes to give you updates on his day constantly, letting you know when he’s hungry or thirsty. He will also tell you when he’s finished his dinner or needs the loo 😊 He now has a wonderful shiny coat and loves to be brushed and handled. He enjoys being sung to and loves to be rocked to music. Very shy and nervous at first, once a relationship is formed, Theo loves nothing better than cuddles and head bumps – he is a very large male now weighing in at over 10kg. He is raw fed. Theo needs love, attention, cuddles and LOTS of food. I guarantee he will love you back.
Please note I recently was able to contact his breeder who can confirm he is a Maine Coon. Please note that any potential adoption application is subject to a successful home check from myself to ensure it is a suitable environment for him. I’d also like Theo’s new parents to be happy to keep me updated on his progress with the odd message and pictures 🥰
If you can offer Theo his forever home then please contact Jacky our rehoming coordinator at mcccrescue@gmail.com. There will be a £50 donation fee for Theo.

Nala is a 9 year old fluffy ginger lady. She is a full Maine Coon. She is neutered & microchipped but not vaccinated. She has never lived with dogs. She has shared her home with young children and other cats but we believe she would be better suited to a childless home with no other cats. She isn’t nasty to cats or children, but she is sensitive to noise and bustle and she tends to look down her nose at other cats 😂.
She appreciates some outdoor time, but she is used to a protected garden where she was unable to leave. She is not used to roads.
She is a sensitive lady who likes peace and quiet, she is loving and loves to sit close or on you. She is gorgeous and very good company.
She is long haired, but a regular brush will keep it under control. We are her second home as her original mommy emigrated… we have tried to give her the best home possible but we have 2 young children (5 & 7) and it can be very noisy… its effecting her mental health and it isn’t fair on her… this is breaking our heart but we want to find her the best, safe loving home that we can. She deserves a loving quiet environment with protected outdoor access for her safety.
If you can offer Nala a loving home with no other pets, young children and access to an enclosed garden or catio then please email our rehoming coordinator Jacky at mcccrescue@gmail.com. There will be a rehoming donation of £75
