About us

The Maine Coon Cat Club was founded in 1985. The inaugural meeting was held in the car park of a cat show in the South East of England. At that time there were only a handful on Maine Coons in the UK, now the breed is one of the most popular in the country. The aim of the club was to gain recognition of the breed with the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy). A Standard of Points was drawn up and the breed was granted Preliminary Recognition in 1988. The first Maine Coons were entered in competition at the Maidstone & Medway Show on 16th July 1988. The club has gone from strength to strength since those early days. We now organise our own annual show and offer our members reduced entry fees for cats being entered at the club show. We produce a newsletter three times a year to go out to all members and hold our Annual General Meeting in March each year. We also offer rosettes to members' cats when they gain a GCCF title. We run an annual points trophy competition for members, both for Maine Coons and Household Pets being shown in GCCF, with beautiful rosettes and trophies for the winners.
Our members can apply to join our Breeders' List for a small extra fee and their details will be placed on the club website so potential future kitten buyers can locate them. Our breeder list members can have their kittens listed on our kitten list - this is updated weekly by our kitten list co-ordinator. Please note: The GCCF and our registration/breeding policies do not allow cats with certain traits to be used for breeding (polydactyly ) so we are unable to add breeders to our breeders' list of they are breeding polydactyl Maine Coons. However, they may still join the club as an ordinary member.
All members are also entitied to a discount for genetic DNA testing at Langford Cat Genetic Testing Centre, based in the UK - this is espeically useful as all Maine Coons must be tested for various gene traits before they can be used for breeding. You can find out more about Langford Cat Genetic Testing HERE
