The Maine Coon Breed Advisory Committee (MCBAC)
What is the MCBAC?
Every GCCF approved breed has a breed advisory committee (BAC). This committee is completely separate from the individual clubs. All GCCF affiliated specialist breed clubs, such as the Maine Coon Cat Club, have the right to send representatives to sit on the relevant BAC.
The Maine Coon Cat is the only GCCF affiliated specialist breed club catering specifically for Maine Coons. This means that the Maine Coon Cat Club Committee members form the entire MCBAC. Health and protection of the future of the breed is paramount, above all else.
What Does the MCBAC Do?
1. Monitors training and performance of the Maine Coon judges & trainees2. Maine Coon Standard of Points3. Maine Coon Registration Policy4. Maine Coon Breeding Policy
How Does the MCBAC Work?
The MCBAC is separate to the Maine Coon Cat Club and all correspondence relating to GCCF registration of Maine Coons, the Standard of Points (SOP) or the Maine Coon Breeding Policy, should be sent to the MCBAC Secretary, not the Maine Coon Cat Club. If you have a query relating to these matters, please email the MCBAC.
Matters directly relating to the Maine Coon Registration Policy, Breeding Policy and Standard of Points are dealt with by the MCBAC, under the guidance of GCCF.
Judging and judge training matters, including the progress of Maine Coon judges and trainees, goes through a three tier discussion system, the final decision is made by the Judge Progression Group 2C Committee, which consists of members from the Maine Coon and Siberian BACs.
Feedback to trainees and promotions to fully qualified judges are discussed by the JPG2C group, with input from the two breed BACs (Maine Coon & Siberian) because judges now train on groups of breeds, rather than individual breeds.
The MCBAC meets 3 times a year, the JPG2C also meets 3 times a year.
2026 Annual MCBAC Report for the Maine Coon Cat Club Annual General Meeting
Each year, a report on the MCBAC's work over the previous 12 months is given to our club members at the AGM. It includes items that have been actioned, as well as DNA testing statistics (HCM, PKDef and SMA DNA testing carried out by Langford) and the latest registration statistics from GCCF.
The report explains a little more about what we do and what has been done between March 2025-March 2026. It may be of interest to anyone wishing to find out more about the breed, how we are working to continue to promote health and protect our breed's future, and would be of special interest to those individuals who show or register Maine Coons with GCCF.
