The Maine Coon is one of the largest domestc breeds of cat, evolving as an effective hunter on the farms of the north-eastern states of America in the 1800s.
Known for having a gentle laid back attitude to life, usually accepting new situations and surroundings quickly, they are know for behaving rather clown-like and make wonderful pets for both single person households and families.
